A.R Rahman is an Indian popular music directer from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He was born as A. S. Dileep Kumar in 6 January 1967 to R.K Shekhar and Kashturi, a practicing Hindu family. His father was a a film-score composer and conductor for Tamil and Malayalam films. His father was died when he was nine years old.
Rahman was attracted to Qadiri tariqa (Sufism) in 1984 when his sister was very ill. In 1989, when he was 23 years old, all of his family member were converted to Islam and change his name to Allahrakka Rahman from A. S. Dileep Kumar.
